A Post About Christmas

It's Christmas time! There's no need to be afraid! At least that's what Paul Young sang for Band Aid, but try telling tat to poor James Brown and Gerald Ford, who might care to disagree with him.

I've always loved Christmas, because it's a time that you get to spend with all your family, getting merry and giving gifts. This has seemed to diminish each year though with our family, to the point where the only people I saw bar my dear old mum on Christmas Day was my extended family: my good friends. I find this kinda sad and defeating the object of the holiday (which to me is about celebrating life and the fact we haven't quite joined Mr Brown or Ford yet). I wonder if our family is an exception - certainly loads of people I spoke to seemed to be going around for big parties with their family. Maybe mine are just scrooge-like assholes who can't be bothered seeing what little family they have left, even only for an hour or so? :P

As it goes, one of my favourite parts of Christmas Day is sending text messages to most, if not all of my phonebook - especially to people that I haven't heard from in a good while - just to let them know that I'm thinking about them! If you're one of them and I didn't...sorry :( Send me your number...there's a good chance I haven't got it as I usually text everyone I can!

I feel I must mention my favourite present this year...it was a book called Pirateology and is kind of an almanac of everything pirate, such as how to tell the difference between your average pirate and a buccaneer, or what a red flag flying on a pirate ship means, or how to make a working sundial, etc, etc. It's brilliant! It could probably be classified as a kids book, but I really don't care - it ranks very high on my 'favourite ever present' list, mainly because it's something someone has really thought about before getting me. Those are the best types of presents I think.

Have a great New Year :)

Christmas and The Beatles

We had our first Christmas dinner in work today! We know this because we were given a free mince pie each, and the pudding was Christmas Pudding in white sauce! Apart from that, it wasn't too special! Apparently the lads on the early shift got a cracker each...I want a cracker! :(

Anyway, we have another one on Tuesday because the lads in the subs office change shifts so the ones who wren't in tonight get to experience the joys of pigs in blankets, woo!  Then we have ANOTHER one on Wednesday because it's the staff night out and we've been treated to a posh xmas meal in the Newz Bar in town as well as an almighty piss up! I can't wait!

I'll be sick of turkey by Christmas Morning never mind Boxing Day if this continues!

In other news - how hard is it to find appropriate presents for people? I say this because I pride myself on getting people gifts that I think they'll appreciate rather than random crap that they might not need (i.e. I won't get you socks, unless there's a certain pair you really want or you're a weirdo with a foot fetish or something) but this year it's proving exceptionally difficult even for my mum, who usually gets lumbered with bath salts and the like! Please advise!

Finally, there's a new Beatles album out! Despite the fact that two of them have been pushing daises for years, the album - called Love - was released earlier this month. I've been listening to it the last few days, and even though it's just a remix of old tracks (remixed by George Martin from the original takes!), it's seriously top notch and I'd advise everyone to have a listen! Come to think of it, that'd make a pretty good present for at least one person on my list. Score!

Dean Gaffney = Legend

I don't usually watch I'm A Celebrity at all - it's one of the few reality shows that has never interested me in the slightest. However, I was linked to a clip of serial B-lister and ex-Eastenders actor Dean Gaffney making his entrance on the show and it impressed me so much that I might watch it just for him from now on.

It's in three parts, and altogether lasts for around 15 minutes or so. The premise is that Dean knows he's going into the jungle, but not much else. He certainly doesn't know that the public have just voted for him to do one of the Bushtucker Trials live on TV right then and there. His reaction is priceless, and it makes for some of the funniest unscripted TV that I've ever seen.

My favourite part is at...hmm..7:45 or so on the third clip. It's only really funny if you watch it all though...after doing all the trials, Gaffney walks away from the clearing covered in god knows what and gets his foot stuck in something. As the camera pans back to Ant and Dec, you hear him shout "Help!" and Dec starts pissing himself as they try to finish the show. Top stuff.

Bonfire Night Blues

So Bonfire night 2006 was a big disappointment for me due to the lack of the very thing it's named for - Bonfires! Apparently the council had decided that they were too dangerous, and so they didn't do one at all in the Park. The fireworks show was pretty good...but considering that we got NOTHING last year, they really could have tried to make it up to us. I took loads of pictures of the fireworks that I'll put on my website, but they're nothing special! It's annoying because I prefer the bonfire to the fireworks, but on the way home I guess we did see some rubbish set alight in a scrap yard...that'll do I guess :(

Every cloud has a silver lining though, and my silver lining involved nailing Si, James and Andy at pool before losing to Mikey. You can say a lot of things about good old Mikey Ray, but he brings it against the best and (I believe) he remained undefeated once he beat me due to my error on the black. He also did the same at Malibu Guess Who a while back, so I think I may have a score to settle!

Also it's a year to the day (it's not tomorrow until I sleep) that I started in Sony and I was given my official permanent contract ... much to the disappointment of Wayne who hasn't actually got one yet despite being there longer than me. Hooray :D
